John the Evangelist

The eagle, John's symbol, holds the inkwell in his beak to asist John in the writing of Revelations, revealed by the Holy Spirit (the Dove). Due to his writing, John is the patron saint of booksellers. Awesome detail and clarity in a classic Swiss Tirggel (thin gingerbread) mold from a 17th or 18th Century master carver.
