NOTE the photo below of the back of the original mold. In a tiny oval are the mold carvers’ initials “JM”; see the hook at the lower outside of the Letter M which corresponds with the beginning J . The Year “1876” is etched on the back of the cookie mold and highlighted with black ink.

Back of Original M231776 Mold

As carved in 1876

The wood carver has carved his representation of the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. An excellent pair of cookie images to celebrate our upcoming 250 Year USA Birthday Celebration the “semi quincentennial”. (Try saying that Fast three times! LOL!)

Of course, there are many mysteries about this 150-year-old carving. Why did he carve one image larger than the other? Who is JM the wood carver? He apparently did not see the Liberty Bell, as the Bell is not an exact rendition, but is carved in a folk style.

This House on the Hill cookie mold #M231776 Liberty Bell & Independence Hall is easy to work with and makes excellent impressions so it is a great mold for a beginning Springerle Baker.

NOTE there are small irregularities in the mold due to the original molds age and use, but I think that is part of the charm of this historic cookie mold.
